Anytime two pipes come together in your exhaust system, a seal must be used to prevent exhaust gasses from leaking around the junction. This exhaust sealing ring has the important job of keeping your exhaust quiet, and performing as designed. This sealing ring is made of a soft metallic heat resistant fiber-blended sheets which are coated in graphite, this allows the seal to be crushed and seal the gap when the two pipes are bolted together. Over the years this sealing ring will break down and eventually leak, this can cause a whistle upon acceleration, or can even cause a loud exhaust leak that could cause the floor to vibrate due to the noise.
