Tune a Mercedes-Benz CLA 250: Three Easy Ways
Your CLA 250. One sporty luxury coupe. Pure prowess, road to track -- a pleasure to drive, as only Mercedes-Benz can deliver. The 2023 model, for one? Turbocharged four-cylinder engine does zero-to-60 mph in about 6 seconds, to say nothing of the top speed it can get, a blistering 146 mph.
You might think there aren't any prospects left for making the car even more of an adrenalized thrill-ride. You'd be wrong. There are performance upgrades galore -- and we've got the OEM parts for the job. Here's a few to get your engine running.
Put in a supercharger. This is a step up from the factory turbo, which tops out at 221 horsepower and 258-pound-feet of torque. What it'll do is compress the excess air flowing into the engine's cylinders. This'll make it so the engine can take in more fuel, too. It does that, when the air and fuel combust, you'll get increased power, and a little efficiency bump to boot.
Mod the intake, filter, and exhaust. Swapping out the stock intake for a cold air intake means relocating it to near a fender or above a wheel well, enabling pulling denser, cooler, freer-flowing air into the engine. The result: higher-quality combustion. Ditto for changing the original engine filter for a performance air filter -- you'll get better air quality and airflow. Customize the exhaust, and you'll get a combo of backpressure relief (by opening up the exhaust pipe) and that unmistakable aggressive note when you rev -- a sound sure to turn heads.
Update the suspension and wheels. There's a straightforward way to get better handling and cornering precision: put lowering springs in pace of the factory springs and swap out the stock shocks and struts for performance variants. It'll lower your ride height -- key to both results. Put on lighter-weight alloy wheels for better maneuverability and, for a finishing touch, upgrade the brakes; it'll give you better stopping power.
